I’ve been experimenting with something new. Corporate work, and even startup work, is full of rituals.
One of these rituals is meetings. Sometimes, it’s a fundamental part of a company’s culture.
So much that it trumps everything else and is used as a default option.
While I understand why sometimes we might need meetings, using them as the default option is something I reject.
Having your work interrupted for a chat that maybe could have waited or being the room with 10 other people without a clear agenda nor a clear output is really something I hard hard time with.
So, I’ve decided to be minimalist on meetings.
And instead of having them anytime of the day or the week, now I have a dedicated day for meetings that are really needed.
The rest of the time, I just sit and work. Breaks for walking or eating, yes, but otherwise, I do the same thing for 7h hours. Airplane mode, notifications off, one browser tab, and that’s it.
Disconnected from the world, like during a Paris-New York flight.
